Go-karts are categorized into various classes based on vehicle performance, engine displacement, driver age, and competition rules to meet the diverse training, racing, and recreational needs of different groups. These classes differ in terms of power output, top speed, vehicle weight, and technical specifications; drivers typically select the appropriate vehicle model for training or competition based on their age, driving experience, and specific event requirements.

Based on driver age, go-karts are generally classified into children's, junior, and adult categories. Children's karts target younger drivers, featuring lower power output, restricted top speeds, and comprehensive safety systems. Junior karts offer enhanced power and handling, serving as a transitional vehicle for competitive training and skill development. Adult karts deliver superior power and speed, demanding higher levels of driving skill and physical fitness, and are primarily used for professional races and high-level training.

Based on performance characteristics, go-karts are typically categorized as recreational, training, or competition-grade. Recreational karts prioritize safety and stability, making them common in tourist attractions, amusement parks, and commercial tracks. Training karts offer power and handling characteristics closer to those of racing models, making them suitable for driver education and foundational competitive training. Competition-grade karts are built to specific racing technical regulations, boasting high power output, precise handling, and lightweight construction; they are widely used in karting championships and professional racing events, offering drivers a high-level competitive experience.
