The choice of materials for motorcycle components is primarily determined by the part's function, the loads it must withstand, and its operating environment. As a core component, the engine is typically manufactured from materials such as aluminum alloy, cast iron, and steel. Aluminum alloy, valued for its light weight and excellent heat dissipation, is commonly used for engine casings and certain structural parts; steel, offering high strength and wear resistance, is frequently used for components subject to significant stress, such as crankshafts and gears.

 

Structural components-including the frame, front forks, and suspension system-are primarily made from high-strength steel or aluminum alloy to ensure vehicle stability and safety. The frame requires high impact resistance while minimizing weight to enhance handling performance. Components such as wheel hubs and braking parts also frequently utilize aluminum alloy and steel, balancing strength requirements with improved heat dissipation and durability.

 

Plastics, composite materials, and advanced lightweight materials are also increasingly being used in motorcycle components. For instance, bodywork and protective panels often employ engineering plastics, which offer advantages such as corrosion resistance, low weight, and ease of processing. Furthermore, the development of new energy motorcycles is driving the adoption of materials for components like battery casings and electronic parts that offer enhanced safety and environmental sustainability.
